Avarsin castle is one of the most visited historical monuments in eastern
Azerbaijan which is located between high mountains in eastern north of
Kaleybar city.
Avarsin castle belongs to Sasanian period and some archeologists believe that found articles in this castle belongs to Parthian period, the early period of Sasanian and Islamic period which it shows that this castle was useful in all periods.
There`s very limited information about this castle, so, the archeologists couldn`t find the real name of castle due to this reason it`s characterized under the name of a village around it.
The foundations of this castle, towers, walls and cellars are the most important characteristics of it. there are tow separated cellars In the southern part of the castle.
One is roofed and the other is exposed.
Avarsin castle has 5 round towers to watch which the highest one is more than 800m. some believe that this castle belongs to Babak Khoramdin defensive fortifications in Qaradagh(
