Ahar County (Persian: شهرستان اهر) is a county in East Azerbaijan Province in Iran. The capital of the county is Ahar. Around the mid 1830s the population was estimated to be from five to six thousand inhabitants in about six hundred houses.
By 1956 the population had increased to 19816. At the 2006 census, the county's population was 147,781, in 34,067 families. The county is subdivided into two districts: the Central District and Hurand District.
The county has two cities: Ahar and Hurand.
