Heris County (Persian: شهرستان هریس) is a county in East Azerbaijan Province in Iran. The capital of the county is Heris. At the 2006 census, the county's population was 67,626, in 15,916 families.
The county is subdivided into two districts: the Central District and Khvajeh District. The county has five cities: Heris, Khvajeh, Zarnaq, Bakhshayesh, and Kolvanaq.
Carpets:
Carpets from the town's workshops are considered to be of better quality than those from the inaccessible mountain villages.
The typical Heris red colour and a highly individual medallion are the main characteristics of these popular carpets. Old and antique examples, in various blue tones, are occasionally found in the trade and at auctions.
Brown, beige and turquoise shades indicate older pieces.[citation needed] Heris silk carpets are exceptionally finely knotted and are both rare and very beautiful.
The designs of old Heris rugs differ radically from those of new pieces.
