Bahman Dam belongs to Sassanid period and is located at 58 km of
shiraz in
Kavar over Ghare Aghaj River. It is one of the natural historic attractions of
shiraz'sTownship.
The dam is attributed to Bahman the son of Isfandyar. Bahman was the son of Isfandyar or Ardeshir Derazdast (with long hand) or in other word, Ardeshir I who was the son of Khashayar, the fifth king of the Achaemenid era; he inherited the kingdom in 464 BC.
The maximum age of
Bahman Dam until now is 2470 years and the minimum age is 2430 years.
Bahman Dam is made to raise the water level and to divert flowing water through the channel into
Kavar Plain.
The length of it is 130 m and its height in the highest point is up to 9 m. the used materials consist of mountainous stone pieces and mortar. It is built in a place that tow mountain ranges are getting close to each other in which some parts are located on the mountain's body and some other in the riverbank,
