The lake of Aras dam is the widest lake behind a dam in Iran and the space is 15 thousand hectare. It is an artificial one which is located on Aras river in the border of Iran and Republic of Azerbaijan.
Building and exploiting the dam is common between Iran and Republic of Azerbaijan. There`s many different kinds of fishes in the fresh water of the lake and it`s a proper place for tourism and fishing.
The lake is the only source to produce and fishing crayfish in fresh water and more than 250 tones exports alive to European countries every year .
also, based on the experts statements of UNEP, around the river and behind the lake is one of the most important habitats for white forehead goose in the world.
Of total 10 thousand of white forehead goose in the world, 3 thousand goose have been observed in the northern ponds of western Azerbaijan, especially around and behind Aras dam and it represents that it has a proper biological place for this kind of bird.
