Asef Mansion which is known as a Kurd House in Sanadaj is a symbol of cultural identity for Kurds. It consists of different buildings, including a museum which houses one of the biggest anthropological and ethnic museums in
Iran.
The museum features statues, paintings, books and historical documents, which illustrate the customs, culture and lifestyle of the Kurds in a comprehensible manner.
Asef Mansion was constructed over four different historical eras, the oldest being the northern portion, which dates back to the Safavid Era (1502-1722) and includes a large hall formerly used for feasts.
The Qajar Dynasty saw the construction of the eastern and western wings which includes the outer courtyard as well a huge bath.
During the third phase of construction, which took place in the Pahlavi Dynasty, the rooms and portals were added.
The whole complex was restored between 2000 and 2004.
Its plaster work and sash windows, even though archaic, have a special beauty, as does its mode of architecture, which uses sculptured stone and arches.
The facade was built in the Baroque style and the rest of the building has been elaborately decorated with
...see more plasterwork, mirrors and wood.
In total the complex measures around 4000 square meters and was registered on the Iranian National Heritage List in 1997.
