Doroodzan Dam is an earthen dam in Fars Province,about 85 kilometres north of shiraz. Completed in 1974 and built primarily for irrigation water storage, for flood control, and municipal water storage, the facility is also a hydroelectric dam with an installed electricity generating capability of 10 MW.
Achaemenids about 2,400 years ago due to the need for irrigation water in the area, built a dam near the village Dorooddzan. The dam is built in the best part of the path of the Kar River and in regard with its construction time is one of the engineering masterpieces of the world.
This dam was known as Daryoush Dam and farmers used it for irrigation of their agricultural fields.
The dam was later rebuilt and in Pahlavi era it was a need for a huge dam that its best place was detected in the same spot, therefore the remains of Daryoush Dam was transferred from this area to the close area of this dam.
