The Complex of Izadkhast is located in the
Fars Province of
Iran, approximately 135 km south of
Isfahan. The complex consists of Izadkhast Castle, a
Caravanserai, and a Safavid-period bridge.
The castle structure is of particular interest due to the various architectural styles incorporated into the construction of the building, including Sassanid and Qajar periods.
Indeed, the architecture of the castle is unique to Izadkhast, and only comparisons in building materials can be made to other sites in the region.
The most important section of the complex is the castle that has been built on singular bedrock in a sand construction and close to the valley of Izadkhast.
The bedrock has protected the castle from the foreigners' attacks. A bridge and a gate in the most accessible part of the complex made it possible to connect with the surrounding areas.
The smallness of the rock led to agglomeration of built rooms. Hence, the smallness of rooms resulted in increase of floors.

According to the locals, as recent as the turn of the millennium, people still lived in the old part of Izadkhast, but the homes were destroyed and people were forced to move due to floods in the past two years.
Most of the homes were constructed from wood and mud. The small size of the bedrock led to the agglomeration of built rooms.
Hence, the smallness of rooms led to a rise in the number of floors, some as many as five-story high which, in view of its period, is a remarkable architectural feat.
