Tar Lake is one of the touristic attractions of Damavand district. It is formed in the north of Damavand city due to an ancient landslide.
The lake is located at the entrance of the mountain at an altitude of 2500 meters; its water level changes in different seasons. Its water is provided by the rivers come from the north and is frozen in winter and sometimes it is continued to be frozen until May.
Its water is also so cool in summer that sometimes might be difficult to swim for a long time.
The lake has a magnificent view and is appropriate for entertainments such as swimming and boating. Mountaineering in southern and northern peaks can provide an exciting trip for four or five hours.
