Tectonic lakes of Tar and Havir are located in 30 km of the east of Damavand Township. They are mountainous fresh water lakes. The lakes have an area about 700 m2 .
The headwaters fall into these lakes include springs of Gharedagh Mountains, Siahchal, Shahneshin in north and seasonal waterways of the south. Tar Lake has been surrounded by the mountains with the various heights of 50 m up to 500 m above the lake level.
The existence of these highlands next to each other and without any valleys to split it, cause the emergence of a crater that Tar Lake has been formed in it.
