Abarkouh playa is located at the distance of 20 kilometres of the Abarkouh County and it is considered as one the most famous deserted areas of Iran.
This area is located between two mountain ranges, and Taqestan desert is situated at a little distance of it.
This desert receives its main water from two rivers in the southwest and some other rivers entering the desert from the southeast margins. The most part of this desert is covered by salt meadow with scattered fosses.
There is a swamp in the northwest margin. Some layers of Sodium Sulphate have been observed in Abarkouh playa, in some parts the thickness of Sulphate layer is considerable and reaches more than 10 cm.
Kase River is also located at the distance of 20 kilometres and in depth of 9 kilometres of Abar Kouh/ yazd.
