The
Ali Sadr cave is the world's largest water cave which attracts millions of visitors every year. It is located about 100 kilometers north of
Hamedan, western
Iran.
Excavations and archeological studies of the cave have led to the discovery of ancient artworks, jugs and pitchers dating back to 12,000 years ago. Animals, hunting scenes and bows and arrows are depicted on the walls and passages of the exit section. The knowledge of the existence of the 70 million-year old cave was lost, and it was only rediscovered in 1963 by Iranian mountaineers.
It's walls reach 40 meters and it also contains several lakes. Visiting the cave is done by boat, on the river that flows through it. The cave's water canals are 11 kilometers long, or at least this is what has been discovered so far.
The original natural factors such as dissolution, erosion, settlement are of influence. Outside the main part of the cave the exploitation facilities have been used in away they will leave no negative influence on its natural appearance.
