The lake which also known as Saveh, Qom, and Shahi lake covers an area of 2400 sq. km is situated on the south of Alborz mountain chain.Its distance from Tehran-Qom highway is about 7 km.
Various streams enter the lakecrossing salty and brackish grounds. But there is no rich and full watered river flowing into the lake constantly so it is just a seaonal lake when there is a minimum rainfall.
The water of the winter months evaporates in the warm summer months
