The main building of Ferdowsi or Tus museum was built in 1968. It used to be a ‘traditional’ restaurant but the structure was renovated into a museum in 1982 with slight changes.
In 1988 bearing the name of the Tus Museum was changed to the museum of anthropology and archeology. The year 1369 (1990), was named as the "Millennium of Collection of the Shahnameh" by UNESCO.
At the same time with the presentation of materials belonging to Ferdowsi period, the Exclusive Museum of Ferdowsi was inaugurated. This museum is affiliated to the Cultural Heritage Organization of Iran.
The objects are exhibited for the purpose of introducing three subjects:
1.Introducing historical city of Toos
2.Introducing Hakim Abu ʾl-Qasim Ferdowsi Tusi as a greatest epic poet in the world
3.Introducing Shahnameh (the book of kings) that is considered as the most important epic poetry around the world and as the most valuable document of national, cultural, historical and literary identity of Iran.
