Darakeh is a neighborhood located north of the provincial capital of
Tehran,
Iran. It is near Evin and Velenjak. It is a popular hiking area that attracts many tourists, with a population (As of 2005) of 1,000,000.
Darakeh is a very nice place for hiking and climbing, lots of routs with different difficulties can be seen there.
The name
Darakeh is driven from Darage (In Persian: درگِ) that was a kind of shoes for marching on snow. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful up-country areas in Shemiranat.
The area includes one of the villages of Shemiranat with its ideal weather; the village due to locating in mountainous route
Darakeh, is one of the busiest areas in
Tehran especially during weekends.
There are so many cafes in the route of
Darakeh; the most important ones include: Haft Hoz,Zoghal Chal and Palang Chal. The houses of this village are mostly the old houses with gabled roofs built in narrow

Unfortunately with the change of conditions of life, these houses are replaced with new apartments. The primary residents of this place were farmers and orchardists.
Haft Hoz, Kara Waterfall, Band Abdollah and Jozak Waterfalls, Palang Chal, Asiboo( Ab Sefid, literary means Withe Water ), Haft Cheshme ( seven springs), Kafo ( sudsy water) are among the most beautiful and magnificent areas in Darakeh.
