Chehel Tan Garden is one of historical and famous gardens of Shirzaz. It is built during Zavdieh period and contains of forty graves (in two row) and as a result it is known as Chehel (in English means forty) Tan.
Chehel Tan garden is located at the north of Hafez's tomb, beside Jahan Nama Garden. Inside the garden different trees will catch your eyes.
There are some graves related to thirteenth century AD in this garden.
Sheikh Aboo Ashagh known as Sheikh Ataame and Heshmat Shirazi are the mystics of shiraz who are buried there.
In past, there lived forty dervishes who prayed there that after the death of each one the other one buried him in this site; forty graves are located next to wall in the east side of the yard without any thing written on them.
Motamedoldoleh Farhad Mirza Ghajar, the governor of Fars in 1257 AH ordered that the forty gravestones to be cut in the same size.
