After conquering of
Tehran, Afghans built a bridge on the north side of this area.
In front of it they made a gate called Arg.
Tehran Arg and other building inside of it, are related to safavi and Zand`s time. In Agha Mohamad khan time, it was nearly in the north of
Tehran, but years later, and by developing of
Tehran and making new streets, it placed in the center of
Tehran.
Tehran historical Arg square was the first and oldest square of
Tehran. The waterpool that was destroyed in recent days was made in Qajar`s time.
Arg the oldest neighborhood of the capital had a limited extent many years ago. In fact the extent of it from the beginning of its formation remained stable.
This area is currently around 45 hectares. The remained works of historical collection of Arg are, radio building, place of justice, the palace of finance, academy building, Arg police station`s building, bazaar branch of national bank, Arg mosque, the former building

The vast field that remained from Zand era was called ‘Arg’ in Fath Ali shah time. Then it was called King, the field artillery and Golestan square.
According to historical document, Darolphonoon, the first school of new science, were established in this place. The first public Park of Tehran was built in this place too.
Shams-ol-Emareh (Edifice of the Sun) that was the tallest building in Tehran was built in the neighborhood. The first public museum in Tehran was also built here.
Accordingly, Tehran Arg was the most important neighborhood of old Tehran that consisted the most important government agencies and organizations. The condition of Arg has changed a lot.
Today from the memories of Arg, there is nothing remained except some photos, names, and a few building in Golestan Palace.
